The South Fork of The Snake River runs through the valley. It is a tail water fishery with with a decent slot limit on the size of the fish you can keep which keeps the fishing great. All fish between 8 & 16 inches must be released because they are the prime breeders. All of the Fish in the South Fork are wild, there are no planted fish in the river. Biologists have found if you manage and keep a wild trout fishery, "wild", you have a healthier more resilient population of fish. Smarter, tougher and better fighting. 95% of the fisherman on the South Fork practice catch and release which plays a big part of the awesome fishing here. |
| The Caribou and Targhee National Forests That surround the valley are notorious for their awesome scenery and big game hunting. if you hunt hard 30 inch bucks are not uncommon. There are lots of Elk, Moose, Bear, Mountain Lion as well as a healthy herd of mountain goats if you are lucky enough to draw a permit for one. Our outfitters can guide you through the Game and Fish red tape as well as guiding you through our rugged mountains. We also have good duck and goose hunting and some of the local outfitters offer "Cast & Blast" fishing and hunting trips on the river. | ![]() |

The fishing in the South Fork of the Snake River is what makes Swan Valley famous, however if you look to the mountains, there are hidden treasures there. Most of the streams are loaded with natural native cutthroat trout in the 12 to 18 inch category and I will usually catch more fish in the streams than the river. The only sacrifice of stream verses the river is I won't hook that trophy monster brown trout in the creek. |
| There are hundreds of miles of groomed snowmobile trails in the Caribou and Targhee National Forests. Maintained by the state of Idaho. In addition, the south facing open slopes of our mountains provide endless bowl snow going opportunities for the powder hounds and hill climbers. In the off chance you use up our snowmobile options our trails connect with Wyoming's which connect with Montana's, that connect back to Idaho's. | ![]() |

Backpacking in our beautiful mountains is really a treat due to the solitude you will find. Unlike our famous neighbor to the northwest "Jackson Hole & Yellowstone" you will find nearly deserted, yet well maintained trails running through our majestic mountains that are in fact part of those crowded mountains up the way. |
| Boating is popular on the Snake River and section 2 of the river gives the illusion of wilderness although it technically isn't, it provides a wilderness like experience. Boaters must remember the Snake River is a big river and although it is rated a class 1 river in difficulty it still takes some skill and river knowledge to navigate it safely. There are plenty of places to camp along the river. There are additional Boating oppottunities on Palisades Reservoir. For the whitewater boats, above Palisades Lake you will find some class 3 white water in Alpine Canyon. | ![]() |
